GO Foundation

Our burning desire is to create opportunities for Indigenous youth through education.

Education is the most powerful tool.

It allows me to unlock so many opportunities and changes my potential.

If every Indigenous person had the opportunities I had it could change the world.

WHO IS GO

Founded by Adam Goodes and Michael O’Loughlin (with much help from their good mate, James Gallichan), the GO Foundation turned its focus to education in 2014 with the establishment of its scholarship program for Indigenous students. What began with a small number of independent school scholarships has expanded into 26 (mostly public) schools and 5 universities.

We seek to support our students through the GO Ecosystem, a three-way collaboration supported by corporate Australia. It comprises CareerTrackers, schools and universities and Indigenous organisations, all working to create a brighter future for Indigenous Australians.

Our Ecosystem is based on the concept that by working together, we can empower Indigenous Australian youth to change their own lives. With GO’s trusted partners, and with culture at the heart of everything we do, we provide mentoring, leadership, networks and support to GO students on their journey from primary school to employment.

HOW WE DO THIS

1We provide scholarships to Indigenous students from primary school through to university, to students who live on country, in community and with family. The financial assistance gives GO students access to the tools and resources they need and the Ecosystem provides them with opportunities to broaden their perspectives.

2We help make the journey through school more rewarding for our scholarship students in the hope that they will self-select further education. Our research shows that if our students complete further education of any type, they are empowered to change their own future. GO believes that by providing our students with the tools and opportunities, they will be empowered to choose further education of any type after Year 12.

3We work with our Ecosystem partners to make their workplaces culturally safe and inclusive. We believe that our Indigenous culture and heritage should be shared and celebrated within our workplaces so that all Indigenous Australians can take their authentic selves to their work, every day. This is how we will create long-lasting, systems change.
