She also played a central role as a member of the Referendum Council, which led to the historic Uluru Statement from the Heart in 2017.

Tanya was an active campaigner for a Yes vote in the 2023 Voice Referendum, further advancing her commitment to the recognition and rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Currently, Tanya is the Co-Chair of the First Nations Advisory Group for the National Australia Bank, a Director of the Coaxial Foundation, Director of the National Library of Australia and a member of the Australian National University Council.
