Strategic Plan 2022-2025

Our roadmap to further growth and success

At GO, we have a strength-based approach and place culture and education at the heart of everything we do. We deliver a holistic program that includes cultural and aspirational connection days, access to professional opportunities and financial support.

We will remain focused on what sets us apart, including:

  • supporting students where they are on their education journey, with a particular focus on students in public education because that’s where the majority of our young mob are
  • the eldest child and role modelling – we celebrate Indigenous excellence and ensure our GO Scholars have access to inspiring Indigenous role models – “if you can see it, you can be it”
  • female focus – awarding more than half of our scholarships to girls, in recognition of the important and powerful role women play in families and communities and to ensure Indigenous girls thrive
  • building aspiration, inspiration, resilience and confidence in our GO Scholars.

We award scholarships across 95 schools, including public and independent, and 8 universities in Sydney, Adelaide and Canberra. To date, we have awarded over 1,700 scholarships and our roadmap will ensure we continue to increase our numbers at a steady pace by 2026.

We have a dedicated Scholarships team made up of proud Aboriginal people who connect with our students, make them feel valued and important, as they are.

Our focus areas for the next five years include:

Culture

Deepening students’ connection to Culture.

Story

Sharing our GO success stories.

Delivery

Refine and improve our end to end support.

Sustainability

Develop a long-term partnership model and deepen engagement and communication with our supporters.

Capability

Build a skilled GO workforce and ensure we have the right resources and infrastructure.

As an Aboriginal managed and governed organisation, we will always put culture at the heart of everything we do to ensure our young people have access to a program with a strong cultural lens that builds pride in culture and identity.

Advocacy is important to us and we will use our collective voice humbly and respectfully on matters that align with Indigenous education and our mission of empowering through education.

We will think deeply about our advocacy role and partner with organisations where we can, to ensure we have a stronger and shared voice.

GO is committed to developing meaningful and long-term partnerships that nurture deep collaboration and impact. We partner with organisations aligned with our values and beliefs and that match and support the aspirations of our young people.

By partnering with the right organisations, those committed to meaningful change rather than short-term solutions, we can secure the future of our foundation.

A secure future means we can grow our program and guarantee support and opportunities for our GO students for the life of their schooling.

We will give careful consideration to defining our model so we are clear on who it’s for and how it is scalable for greater impact.

Our plan for 2022-2026 is to:

  • continue delivering our program in Sydney, Adelaide and Canberra
  • deepen our relationship with our young people to ensure we build on the growth and engagement in these areas
  • have a greater focus on supporting the transition to high school for year 5 and 6 students
  • create an alumni network and showcase the talented Indigenous young people at our fingertips
  • measure the impact produced by the GO Scholarship Program
  • build a strong, sustainable financial future for the GO Foundation so we can support more young people in meaningful and lasting ways.

Our next five years will be focused on consolidating our delivery model and growing further in our current footprint. Beyond this time, any future expansion will be evidence-based, will not duplicate effort, and will be underpinned by sustainable partnerships. Further national expansion will be considered in the next strategy period.

We want to be guided by our young people. We will be doing some work with them to find out what it is they want to do and how we can continue to support them.

We are committed to being a leader in the education scholarship sector and having greater impact to improve outcomes for young Indigenous people, their families, and communities.
