Meet GO Scholar Jaylah: From Year 12 to What’s Next

29 July 2026

With Year 12 coming to an end, GO Scholar Jaylah is looking ahead to the next chapter of her journey. And she knows she wants to choose a path that is going to make a positive and lasting difference for others.

“I would like to leave an impact by building trust and support within Aboriginal communities.”

Jaylah is a proud Noongar woman from Wagyl Kaip Country but is currently living on Kaurna Country in Adelaide. Next year, she plans to study a Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science to explore how different knowledge systems can work together.

“I’m interested in the combination of the traditional way of life and modernised concepts around pharmaceutical acceptance and usage. I want to make connections between modern medicine and traditional Aboriginal practices.”

By bringing these perspectives together, she aims to contribute to health approaches that are trusted, respected and meaningful for First Nations communities.

Alongside her passion for health and education, Jaylah has continued to strengthen her connection to culture and community throughout her time as a GO Scholar.

“Being a GO Scholar has allowed me to connect deeply with my cultural heritage, as I haven’t always had the opportunity to connect with my culture through my family.”

“Since becoming a Scholar, I have never felt more connected to my culture. I appreciate the dedication the GO team has shown in organising Culture Connect Days, which allow Indigenous students across Adelaide to connect with each other.”

Throughout her time at school, Jaylah has also been recognised for her dedication to her education, her contributions to her school community, and the leadership she has demonstrated among her peers. Behind these achievements is Jaylah’s commitment to reaching her goals.

“When reflecting on my journey, I am proud of myself for maintaining my hard work and dedication, which has allowed me to be in the current position I am in.”

“I am proud of myself for taking opportunities and risks in both educational and social settings.”

And we are proud of her too! Jaylah continues to show up, take chances and give back. We’re excited to see her take the next step into university, and look forward to seeing all that she continues to learn, achieve and contribute along the way.
